ABOUT

We are Team Thipi K’in!

 

We are a team of four artists that were selected fall 2025 through an open call to complete  the Owamniyomni Public Art project for the City of Minneapolis, at Water Works Park downtown. 


We all work in different mediums, and decided to bring our skills together to work on this amazing opportunity to bring Dakota history, stories, culture, and perspective back to a place that holds particular significance to Dakota people.

 

Owamniyomni, in Dakota, refers to the whirlpool located just below the falls. Now referred to as St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis, a place Dakota people used to  gather at for many reasons.


We chose the name ‘Thipi K’in’, which in Dakota translates to “Elephant” or “the thing that carries a house on its back,” as we travel from place to place— listening, learning, and carrying knowledge, perspectives, and ideas back to this place and build art for all.
